Senior Staff Accountant

The (Senior) Staff Accountant will be working directly with and for the Controller and will have interactions with The Academy employees and members, at all levels of the organization. The (Senior) Staff Accountant has the responsibility of performing functions related to various aspects of the general ledger, accounts receivable, and accounts payable. This position also supports special projects as requested by the Controller and The Academy leadership.

Job Summary

The (Senior) Staff Accountant will be working directly with and for the Controller and will have interactions with The Academy employees and members, at all levels of the organization. The (Senior) Staff Accountant has the responsibility of performing functions related to various aspects of the general ledger, accounts receivable, and accounts payable. This position also supports special projects as requested by the Controller and The Academy leadership.

Essential Functions

(Senior) Staff Accountant takes ownership of reporting costs, productivity, margins and expenditures for The Academy.

  • Assists with preparation of accurate, timely financial statements in accordance with our established schedule and with input from the rest of the Finance team
  • Conducts monthly and quarterly account reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance
  • Analyzes financial statements for discrepancies and other issues that should be brought to the Controller’s attention
  • Reviews all Academy transactions and generate invoices as necessary
  • Reconciles balance sheet accounts
  • Coordinates semi-annual audits and assist Controller with conducting audits
  • Conducts regular ledger maintenance
  • Provides Budget-to-Actual variance reports and analysis for Department leads and management
  • Sends invoices, and follow-ups, as needed, to The Academy members and record in CRM. This includes recurring annual contracts
  • Maintains and calculates monthly Sales commissions
  • Assists with forecasts and annual budget of the financial statements
  • Assists with monthly closing
  • Serves as back up for bank deposits and cash receipts, work with other employees to identify and address discrepancies, reconciliations, and communicate with the CFO regarding discrepancies.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for fielding internal/external accounting related requests

Other duties and projects as assigned, such as but not limited to, special research, collections, etc. Functions subject to change based
on the needs for the department and company.

Qualifications

  • Full accounting knowledge
  • Understanding of computer technology, highly proficient in Microsoft Excel and proficiency in remaining Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficiency with Quickbooks (payroll software/application)
  • Proven thinker and problem solver
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Time management skills, including setting priorities

  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to organize and juggle conflicting priorities and short turnarounds

Education and Experience

  • BS in Accounting, Finance, or related business degree
  • CPA or working toward CPA preferred
  • Public accounting experience a plus
  • 3-5 years of related accounting experience required
