The Academy GE Fellows Program Earns Masters Level Certification through The University of Providence

Alexandria, VA, May 2, 2019 -- The Health Management Academy (The Academy) and the University of Providence (UP) are announcing a partnership that brings enhanced curriculum and Master’s level certification to The Academy GE Fellows Program—a training and mentoring program for high-potential leaders from the nation’s largest health systems. Founded in 2005 with a grant from GE Healthcare, The Academy GE Fellows Program is designed to fill a void in practical, collaborative leadership programs for aspiring healthcare executives. Since its inception, the program has graduated over 200 Fellows from 60 institutions with an 85% promotion rate.

"We are delighted to partner with the University of Providence to bring The Academy GE Fellows Program to new heights of academic and programmatic rigor,” said Renee DeSilva, CEO, The Academy. “Their efforts—combined with GE Healthcare’s ongoing commitment to advancing healthcare leadership—positions us strongly to elevate our contributions for the development of rising health system executives.”

Since its inception, The Academy GE Fellows Program has been uniquely focused on pragmatic leadership challenges through the lens of the C-suite, addressed through in-person curriculum, one-on-one coaching, and “Action Projects,” or health-system-focused workstreams that deliver strategic value to the Fellow’s organization. With support from GE and the new online curriculum delivered through the University of Providence—a part of Providence St. Joseph Health—The Academy can offer more comprehensive and convenient learning opportunities, as well as a Master of Healthcare Administration for the program’s graduates.

“The Academy GE Fellows program has a long history of preparing leaders at the top health systems in the country,” said Rod Hochman, M.D., President & CEO, Providence St. Joseph Health. “Through the University of Providence, we are excited to be a key partner of new the master’s program that will equip leaders to succeed in an evolving and increasingly complex healthcare environment.”

“We have seen the profound effect The Academy GE Fellows Program has had on the careers of many senior executives at leading health systems across the country,” added Lee Cooper, President and CEO of GE Healthcare US and Canada. “These new additions will enhance and accelerate the leadership development of many talented high-potentials to the benefit of caregivers, patients, and communities and we’re honored to be part of it.”
